Frequently asked questions about LCI dumpster rentals

We've Got Answers

Are you a local company?
Yes, LCI Services is a second-generation, family-owned business based in Garden City. The owners have been in the roll-off dumpster business since 1998.
Do you provide same-day service?
Often, we can, if you request service early in the day. However, typically we provide service within 24 hours.
Do you provide dumpster rentals for longer-term construction projects?
All the time.
How do I pay for a dumpster?
We require prepayment for service. The most common method of payment is by credit or debit card when you order a dumpster, either in person or over the phone. We also accept checks or cash, but still require that you furnish credit or debit card information to be kept on file for the duration of your dumpster rental period for the purpose of billing any extra charges you may acquire.

Established customers may contact our office to apply for credit.

Do you charge a dumpster delivery/setout fee?
We do not charge a setout fee within City of Garden City limits.

Outside City limits (>8 miles) we charge a flat fee of $50.00 plus $5.35 per one-way mile over 8 miles.

Do you charge mileage for servicing dumpsters (pick-ups, swapouts)?
No mileage is charged to service dumpsters inside Garden City limits (up to 8 miles).

Outside City limits (>8 miles) we charge a $50.00 flat fee plus $5.35 per one-way mile over 8 miles.

What can/can’t I put in the dumpster?
We only allow non-hazardous solid waste to be placed in your dumpster. Please review our What Can I Toss page for a detailed list of items that should/should not be placed in your dumpster.
What happens if you find illegal items in the dumpster?
If unacceptable material (see What Can I Toss?) is found in the dumpster on site prior to pick up, drivers will notify Dispatch who will then notify customers to remove it. If feasible, drivers may remove it themselves and continue the pickup. If found at the landfill when dumping the container, it may be returned to the customer and customer will be charged a delivery fee equal to a dumpster delivery fee, as well as any fines administered by the landfill or regulatory bodies, plus 10%.

For certain unacceptable items found in the dumpster we may charge a nominal disposal fee instead of returning them to the customer (see “What are the Potential Extra Fees?”).

How should I dispose of unacceptable waste?
We recommend that you contact your local Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
How full can I fill a roll-off dumpster?
You can fill the roll-off container all the way to the top (except concrete dumpsters), but not past the top. Also, once you reach the top it must be Level Full across the entire surface area of the dumpster. No debris can stick up in the air past the top of the sidewalls of the can.

Please review our Filling Your Dumpster page for more information.

If I fill the dumpster level full there is still plenty of room left to fit more stuff on top. Why can’t I stack more stuff on top?
By law we must tarp any load transported on public roads. If a load is not tarped properly, we not only risk being fined, but we also expose ourselves to serious liability should anything fly out of the dumpster while in transit and hit people or property. For our tarping system to function properly the tarp must be able to fully rest on top of the sides of the dumpster. This cannot happen if material is stacked higher than the sidewalls of the dumpster. The customer is responsible for removing excess material until we can tarp the load properly.
I’ve filled up my dumpster, now what?
Give us a call and schedule a “Pick-up-and-Keep” if you are done with the dumpster or, if you are still in need of a dumpster, schedule a “swapout” where we will bring you an empty dumpster and swap it out for the full one.
Will my dumpster be picked up automatically?
No, typically we wait for you to notify us by phone, text, or email that the dumpster is ready for pick up.
What if I need the dumpster longer than what I paid?
Let us know 24 hours in advance of the scheduled pick-up date that you want to keep the dumpster longer. You can keep the dumpster as long as you want.
Can I dispose of a freezer, fridge, or air conditioner in the dumpster?
Yes, if the refrigerant (freon) has been drained by a certified technician and the appliance is tagged as such.
Can I place tires in the roll-off bin?
No. However, should you toss tires in our waste container there is a $25 charge per tire.
How do I dispose of concrete and asphalt pavement, stone, rocks, gravel, sod, sand, or soil?
Order a concrete dumpster. Keep these materials free of trash and other debris and you won’t have to pay tonnage fees on up to 10 tons.

Please note that our concrete dumpsters are approximately 12 cubic yards in volume. If you were to fill it to the brim with concrete it would weigh approximately 17 tons. However, our trucks are limited to 10 tons. Therefore, you can only fill the concrete dumpster a little more than half full (approximately 7 yards).

Can I use the dumpster as a washout bin for concrete ready-mix trucks?
Yes, but only under certain conditions.

While we do not offer purpose-built concrete washout containers, our 12-yard concrete dumpster may be used as a washout bin.

To use a dumpster for concrete washout, you must notify us when placing your order so we can install a required plastic liner for proper containment. A charge applies for the liner.

Because of weight limitations, the dumpster must not be filled more than halfway with hardened concrete or washout material.

How many squares of asphalt roofing shingles can I place in the dumpster?
10 yard – up to 15 squares, single layer

20 yard – up to 25 squares, single layer

30 yard – not recommended for shingles due to the risk of exceeding weight restrictions

Can I use a compactor service to compact my trash inside your dumpster?
No. It is strictly forbidden to use a “Smash my Trash” or other mechanical compacting service to smash trash down inside our dumpsters. These services can cause serious damage to dumpsters for which you would be liable.
We operate a commercial feed mill. Can we use your dumpster to dispose of spoiled animal feed?
Yes, we have several commercial customers who rent our dumpsters on a long-term basis to dispose of special wastes. Please contact our office to discuss a customized solution for your waste disposal needs.
We are a commercial business that needs a large container for our waste disposal needs. Do you provide long-term rentals?
Yes, we do. Many of our customers use our dumpsters on a long-term basis. Please contact our office to discuss a customized solution for your waste disposal needs.
I own horses. Can I use your dumpster to dispose of bedding and manure?
Yes. Please contact our office to discuss a customized solution for your waste disposal needs.
If I rent a dumpster from you, will I be surprised by hidden fees?
No, we do not have any hidden fees. We disclose all fees, or potential fees, up front. We tell you exactly what you get for what you pay and the guidelines to follow to prevent any further fees. However, should you deviate from the clearly defined terms, extra fees could potentially come into play (see the FAQ “What are the Potential Extra Fees?”).
What are the Potential Extra Fees?
Extra Days Fee: If you need the roll-off container for longer than the days included in your dumpster rental package, you will be charged a nominal rate of just $10.00 per day for 10-, 15-, and 20-yard bins, or $4.55 per day for 30- and 40-yard bins, and concrete dumpsters.

Overage Fee: When you pay the upfront cost for your dumpster rental, you pay for all costs associated with a particular dumpster service package. Each dumpster rental includes delivery, pickup, hauling to the landfill, disposal tonnage fees at the landfill for a specified weight of trash, and dumpster rent for a specified number of days. If you place heavy trash in the dumpster to where the weight exceeds the included weight, you will be charged an Overage Fee. This fee currently is $0.04/lbs over the weight limit for 10-, 15-, and 20-yard dumpsters, $63.00/ton for 30- and 40-yard dumpsters, and $0.10/lbs for concrete dumpsters.

Dry Run Fee: A “Dry Run” is a wasted trip, when our driver attempts to service your dumpster (e.g., delivery, pick-up, swap-out, etc.), but cannot due to factors beyond his control. He may be unable to pick up, or drop off, the dumpster due to equipment, or a vehicle, being in the way. Or perhaps the dumpster is overfull, trash is overflowing its sides, trash is sticking up in the air past the dumpster sidewall height, or the door may have been left open and it is now unable to shut properly due to trash being in the way. Or perhaps the dumpster is overweight because of heavy material such as soil, sod, sand, brick, blocks, concrete, asphalt, gravel, or rocks. In all the above cases we are unable to transport the dumpster safely and legally. Our driver will have to return another day to pick up your dumpster after you have had time to either reposition the dumpster contents to where everything fits inside the confines of the dumpster, or you have removed some of the contents to make it a legal load. A Dry Run Fee is charged to recover labor, equipment, and fuel costs associated with the wasted trip.

Repositioning Fee: If you overfill your dumpster to where it interferes with our dumpster tarping system, one of two things could happen. Firstly, if our driver deems that the overfilling can be rectified by repositioning some of the trash, he may go ahead and rearrange it. This will result in a “Repositioning Fee” that will be charged out per minute that the driver must spend manipulating your trash. Our current rate is $2.60 per minute. However, secondly, if our driver decides that repositioning will not fix the issue, he may leave and you will be charged the Dry Run Fee, as discussed above. This decision is solely at the discretion of the driver.

Relocation Fee: If you want the dumpster moved to another location on your site, we will move it for you for a nominal relocation fee (plus mileage, if applicable).

Special Waste Fees: Special wastes are certain unacceptable items found in the dumpster for which we charge a fee instead of returning it to the customer. These unacceptable items include:
Chemical containers up to 1 Gal (household or pesticide): $11.00 each
Chemical containers over 1 Gal (household or pesticide): $17.00 each
Refrigerant-containing appliances: $150 per appliance
Gas/Diesel cans containing fuel: $50 each
Paint cans with liquid paint: $9.00 each
Paint buckets with liquid paint: $13.00 each
Paint thinners: $17.00 per container
Propane tanks: $50.00 each
Tires: $25.00 per tire

Cleaning Fee: If a customer places certain unacceptable materials in the dumpster, such as liquids, wet concrete, hazardous chemicals, or sticky material (wet glue, hot tar, grease, etc.), and we must clean the dumpster, the cleaning costs will be billed to the customer.

Fee for Damages: Dumpster damages generally are the result of getting hit by mechanical loading equipment, such as forklifts and front-end loaders. In rare cases, dumpster contents may catch on fire either through spontaneous combustion, or arson. Fire destroys a dumpster’s paint coating and will require a completely new paint job. Repairs to dumpsters (including repainting and replacing decals and signage), will be billed at 3rd party rates plus 10%.

How do I avoid Potential Extra Fees?
Avoid Overage Fees (extra weight) by not placing heavy material (concrete, asphalt, brick, block, stone, soil, sand, gravel) in the bin. Rarely will the bin weight exceed the included weight in your bin rental unless you load these heavy materials.

Avoid a Dry Run Fee by not overfilling the dumpster, overloading the dumpster, blocking the dumpster in, or interfering with the driver’s ability to service your dumpster.

Avoid a Repositioning Fee by not overfilling the dumpster. Make sure everything is INSIDE the dumpster and nothing sticks up past the sidewall height of the container. Take care how you load your dumpster so that you optimally use the space available to you. Carry large items into the dumpster first through the back door and then fill the spaces between them with smaller items. Look at it this way, when you pay us to use a 20 cubic yard dumpster you are paying for 20 cubic yards of space to fill with your trash. The space you paid for stops at the top of the sidewall of the dumpster. Fill above the sidewall height, and now you are using space you did not pay for.

Avoid Special Waste Fees by carefully reviewing the FAQ about what you can and cannot place in the dumpster (Unacceptable Materials List) as well as the Special Waste fees listed under the FAQ, “What are the Potential Extra Fees?”

Avoid Fees for Damages by only allowing skilled operators to run equipment when loading the dumpster by mechanical means, such as with a skid steer, backhoe, loader, or forklift. Do not place hazardous waste in the dumpster that could spontaneously combust. Do not place hot ashes in the dumpster.

Avoid Cleaning Fees by not throwing unacceptable materials such as liquid waste (oil, paint, blood, hazardous chemicals, etc.), sticky materials (wet glue, wet sheetrock mud, hot tar, grease, etc.), or wet concrete and asphalt in the roll-off dumpster.
